Year heralds new Senior Leadership announcements
The start of the year heralded the announcement of a new Vice-Chancellor and Otago’s first Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori. Former Deputy Prime Minister and Otago alumnus Hon Grant Robertson will take up the role of Vice-Chancellor from July, while distinguished legal scholar Professor Jacinta Ruru (Raukawa, Ngāti Ranginui) has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor Māori. |

Prestigious Schwarzman fellowship in China a first for Otago
Inspirational young Business and Chinese language alumna, Jamie Wood (Kāi Tahu), has been awarded a Schwarzman Scholar fellowship to study a master’s programme in global affairs at Schwarzman College, which sits within Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. |

Making a Difference Generous gift supports students and research
A major bequest of $3.8m from US-based medical alumnus Dr John M. Stewart will support students and research at the University of Otago. The gift was made through the Alumni of the University of Otago in America, with the undergraduate John M. Stewart Scholarship the first initiative established.

The year has started with some important alumni events including the welcoming of alumni scholarship recipients to the University, and alumni events in New Plymouth, Tauranga, and Napier where Professor Robert Patman was the guest speaker.
